Every month troop 1254 embarks on a camping trip. We usually meet around 6:00 on Friday night and then return sometime Sunday afternoon. In between is usually a backpacking trip in which the troop carries all of their gear on their back for the entire weekend. We typically hike in the Adirondacks or the Catskills, but we have been known to go elsewhere too. Every year we have what we call the Christmas trip, when we go to a city and take in all of the tourist attractions. The last trip of the year is typically a canoeing trip on the Delaware river. We always go on these trips, rain or shine. The only reasons that trips have been cancelled was due to a flooded campsite and poor road conditions (only once, each). Every couple of years, the troop goes on a Super Trip during a school break. This troop has hiked all over the great United States. We have been to the Grand Canyon, Mt. Rainier (Washington state), the Everglades, and we have hiked the Appalachian trail extensively, such as the Northern terminus (Mt. Katahdin, Maine), the southern terminus (Springer Mountain, Georgia), and we have been to the highest point, the lowest point, and the peak right in the middle of the trail. In addition, we have hiked Mt. Marcy in the Adirondacks several times. When asked why we like to climb mountains, our reply is "Because they are there."
